The impressively-named Tongtian Xiao 通天曉 (All-encompassing knowledge), or as the book's chapter headings call it Weij Yupian 衛濟餘編, which a 19thc commentator translated as "Miscallnous chapters on self-preservation" https://www.google.com/books/edition/A_Catalogue_of_Chinese_Works_in_the_Bodl/yCcIAAAAQAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%E8%A1%9B%E6%BF%9F%E9%A4%98%E7%B7%A8&pg=PA7&printsec=frontcover was a Qing dynasty recipe book published in 1841. It can be compared to European "Books of secrets" in terms of its scope and content: recipes of various kinds for solving problems or creating marvels.
In this post (which will be one of a series) I will be translating extracts from the book, which is accessible here https://books.google.com/books?id=uAA9AQAAIAAJ&pg=PP2#v=onepage&q&f=false As the translations will be from various parts of the book, I will post the link to the relevant page after each entry
